Pabst Beer WWII Postwar Award Book with President Signed Letter

An original, hard to find, 88 page, 1944 Hard Cover Book, THE WINNING PLANS IN THE PABST POSTWAR EMPLOYMENT AWARDS, and also a rare authentic, signed letter from the President to Mayor I.G Langum of St. Charles, Illinois. The book was given to the Mayor from the President of Pabst. The letter was found with this book just inside the front cover. And so there's no confusion, the last (4) photos are of the letter, the rest of the photos are taken from the book.

The purpose of the book was to announce the winners in the employment contest. There were $50,000 in prizes to give away for the people who came up with the best ideas for the post World War II job crisis.

There were 4 prominent men who were elected to be judges for the contest and they included, Alexander F. Whitney President Brotherhood of Railroad Train Men, Clarence Dykstra President of University of Wisconsin, Wesley C. Mitchell Professor of Economics Columbia University, and Beardsley Ruml Treasurer of R.H Macy & Co. and Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. The 1st place, $25,000 prize was awarded to Herbert Stein of Takoma Park, Maryland.

CHARLES, ILLINOIS - MY DEAR MR MAYOR: BELIEVING THAT YOU MAY FIND IT OF INTEREST, WE ARE SENDING YOU HEREWITH, A COPY OF A SPECIAL EDITION OF A BOOKLET CONTAINING THE SEVENTEEN WINNING PLANS SUBMITTED IN THE PABST POSTWAR EMPLOYMENT AWARDS, WHICH DREW MORE THAN 35,000 ENTRIES.

This signature is authentic, actually signed by Mr. Perslstein. Harris Perlstein had been an associate of Fred Pabst prior to accepting the job of President of the Co., circa 1930's during the United States Prohibition Era. There is a little wear to the top and bottom of the letter as seen in the pics, but pretty decent shape. The book is complete and the pages are in good shape with no tears. On the first page, one that has no writing, there is a tear in the interior by the binding, very minor, besides some minor wear and a little bit dirty, the book is still in pretty good shape with a tight binding.
